About Me

Hmm.. so I am no good at this self-description stuff. My name is Edward Holets. I recently (Spring 2005) graduated from Reed College(Portland, OR) with a BA in chemistry. My thesis was on orotate phosphoribosyltransferase from Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (baker's yeast). In particular I focused on proof of half-of-sites substrate binding by isothermal titration calorimetry. My interests in chemistry lie in biochemistry, inorganic chemistry and computational chemistry. Outside of my chemistry classes I focused on computer science, especially how it can be used in the natural sciences.

Outside of school my major intrests are computer programming and backpacking. I have been programming for over 10 years at this point. I have written many applications (some of which are avaliable on this site) in many languages. Many of these were insipred by a desire to learn new programming languages and techniques. When I can afford to take the time off from work I like to hit the outdoors for a few days. I am lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest which has some truly excellent trails and amazing scenery. I have posted pictures from some of my trips in the gallery. As I go on more trips (and remember to bring camera batteries :( ) I will post more.
